sunflower seed honey bread

Ingredients

  • 300g wheat flour
  • 200g rye flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 150ml buttermilk
  • 350ml lukewarm water
  • 150g sunflower seeds
  • 0.5 tsp spice mix (optional, for example anise, coriander)
  • 1 package of dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons honey

preparation

Sift the flours into a bowl. Add salt, yeast (do not dissolve!), honey, seeds and spices and mix well. Knead/mix with water and buttermilk. Leave to stand for half an hour, then stir and leave to stand for another half an hour.

Put the finished dough into a bread pan (or an oblong cake pan) measuring approximately 30 x 10 cm and place it in the oven preheated to 200°C. It is best to put a small bowl of water next to it.

After 30 minutes, brush the bread with the hot water and let it bake for another half hour. When the bread is put in the oven, brush it with the hot water again.

Try different types of honey to get a different flavor each time.
